To start with you have to like the name 'Athletes of Wine' it does give the mental picture of a runner doing 100 metre sprints along the vines, but that adds to the appeal. It is the brainchild of Liam O'Brien and Matthew Brooke who are a couple of the best known Sommelier's in Australia with wines produced in the Macedon Ranges.
The wine meets you with a lively and concentrated nose that focuses on pristine red cherry and raspberry fruits. The palate continues the fruit driven trend with juicy red fruits growing in structure and benefiting from structural oak inputs that provide both spice and a lattice of fine tannins that dull the exuberance of the primary fruits.
This wine will age well as secondary characters make themselves known.
