The Estate release is a blend of Single Vineyard sites with the 2016 made up of Coolart Road (56%), McCutcheon (23%), Wallis (16%) and Judd (5%) vineyards. There were 15% whole bunches included in the ferment which was given a 3-7 day pre ferment maceration prior to fermentation by wild yeasts. Post fermentation the wine was also left on skins before pressing. The wine was aged in French oak barriques (21% new) for 12 months prior to being bottled without any fining or filtration.
A pretty light red in colour, the nose has attractive stem and earth notes alongside dark cherry and a lift of spiced french oak. The palate is medium bodied with depth of cherry fruit that is well supported by a thread of vanillin oak. There is a sappy rhubarb like note that gives additional depth and character, acidity is beautifully handled and keeps everything in balance with a stemmy/savoury nuance driving the finish.
