The Henk Vineyard sits on red Volcanic soil in upper Yarra, with the 2018 release of 864 produced from the Aqueduct block.
The ferment included 20% whole bunches and only 10% new oak during maturation, allowing fruit rather than oak shine.
The nose is more red than black cherry with a sweetness of wild strawberry that is tempered by forest floor aromatics. An iron first in a velvet glove, don't be fooled by the supple, generous red berry fruits that greet you, there is a continual build of fruit and layers of undergrowth and background spice. The finish has power and drive, but lingers with red cherry and silky tannins lifted by spice and earth.
