The Barossa Old Vine Company came into existence to source wines from some of the great old vineyards in the Barossa that had chalked up a century in the ground, the wines at a time were produced at Langmeil where Paul Linder was the winemaker. I haven't seen any new releases for a while, it's a pity because as a 2003 Barossa Shiraz this has elegance and class beholden of the great old vines from which it was made.

A deep red in the glass with some slight bricking towards the rim, the nose has meaty and leather notes to the dark plum fruit that shows the inputs of new French and American oak. The palate has persistence, concentration but above all balance, deep dark fruits are lifted by wood spice, tannins are fine and acid gives the structure and direction to give presence to what is a beautifully aged old wine.

At it's peak, with now a great time to drink.
