An Australian icon and not a wine that i get to taste often.
This is one of the few Australian wines that can get away with 100% new American oak thanks to the intensity and purity of some of the best fruit in the country,
The nose gives punchy raspberry and plum that works with an array of floral aromatics and an oak induced richness that only the best barrels can produce. With time in the glass the nose unravels more savoury subtlety and nuance.
There is plenty of oak on entry with prodigious length and drying tannins that are met in equal force by plum and blackberry fruit. The wine has a peacock's tail effect of flavour and presence that builds and grows across the palate. There is a touch of saline complexity to finish.
Expensive, but a bucket list wine.
