The culled barrel is the entry level' wine from Tattiara, and at less than $20 it runs rings around some wines at twice the price. The 08 is a full and voluptuous expression of Heathcote Shiraz it has all the lashings of sappy american oak, big up front fruit as well as a subtle savoury side.
The nose is laden with American oak, but ample spiced plum and dark cherry fruit keep things in balance, the palate has plush up front plum with grainy tannins and cedar oak moving toward raisin spice on the long oak dominant finish.
The wine is in a great place now, and will hold for the next few years.
