The concept of marketing a wine as a 'culled' barrel, also known as the one that's not quite as good is an odd marketing slant, however if all culled wines showed this much class the marketing may well take off.
The culled barrel is the younger brother of the Tatiarra Cambrian Shiraz, with the 2009 release giving a glossy deep red colour, a concentrated nose with generous plum and sweet oak aromas.
The palate itself has a density of fruit that is interjected by some savoury nuances that give structure and texture to a generous and well proportioned palate, in typical Heathcote fashion there is also some liquorice characters.
The wine finishes with great balance of fruit and oak, with just enough oak to add a luxuries feel, but not too much to overwhelm the fruit.
