It's almost 5 years to the day that i first tried the Mollydooker Carnival of Love, it was the acclaimed 2005 vintage and i have thoroughly enjoyed following the much loved and maligned winery since that point.
The 2010 Carnival of Love is an intensely flavoured and structured wine that showcases the care that is taken in the winery to make wines that are characteristically Mollydooker.
The wine is an inky dark red in colour with purple hues towards the rim, the nose shows spicy plum fruit against a backdrop of vanillin oak and a touch of liquorice strap. The thing that impresses me most about this wine is the quality of each of it's components and how they complement each other, the dark fruits are concentrated and pristine, the oak is well integrated; providing a vanillin lift and the tannins give contrast to what is a velvety mouthfeel.
The wine has a complex savoury twist on the finish, with oak and spice lingering. Will cellar for decades.
