Beechworth is sometimes forgotten when people think of Victorian fine wine, yet it's home to arguably one of Australia's best wineries in Giaconda and a raft of other producers such as Golden Ball, Castagna and Sorrenberg who are all world class.
Redbank's home is the King Valley, with the fruit for this 2010 Shiraz sourced frmo a single vineyard in Beechworth, the wine is a deep red in the glass with good clarity, spicy vanillin oak is clearly evident on the nose with blackcurrant and dusty plum having just enough power to compete with the oak.
The wine is medium bodied with an earthy, tarry core. Dense blackurrant and plum get a spicy lift with redcurrant and grainy oak providing a textural and drying finish.
This wine will reward short to medium term cellaring as the oak becomes more secondary.
