2011 was the vintage from hell, only those producers who managed their vineyards incredibly well, and took a different approach to the style in which they were looking to make the wine succeeded. This was certainly the case here.
The wine was barrel fermented in new French Oak before being aged for 24 months. There is certainly a herbaceous character to the nose but it is intertwined with floral notes as well as liquorice and white pepper.
The texture of this wine is very enjoyable, quality oak lifts the spicy fruit and adds depth and contrast to the wines tannin structure, the finish is filled out with flashes of oak induced spice and a milk chocolate richness.
An elegant wine that you can confidently serve to someone when they say wines from Victoria in 2011 were no good !
