The Cult Syrah is a cool climate shiraz from the coulter vineyard in Lebothal, Adelaide hills and stylistically more akin to Hermitage in France with wild yeast ferment and no filtering or fining.
In terms of colour the wine is a deep red with youthful purple hues towards the rim, the nose balances meaty blackfruits and savoury oak.
On the palate bright red fruits get a savoury lift of cured meats and a touch of peppery blackberry. The tannins to finish are ripe and drying, with excellent length of dark cherry and blackberry lingering.
Given the wines youth it is surprising how much complexity it has already, and is sure to develop more over time. At under $30 a bottle this is in the 'back up the truck' territory.
