Tasting
I have been looking forward to this wine, the quality of the 2012 vintage has been realised over the last few years, with most flagship wines being released already, however in typical d'Arenberg fashion their icons have been held back in bottle for a number of years.
The wine is aged in a combination of new French Oak barrels and aged American oak, with no fining or filtration.
The wine is an inky dark red i colour and gives spicy dark plum with savoury nuances on the nose. At this point in it's development it holds it's cards close to it's chest, dense dark fruits benefit from a touch of old leather that shows through the fine but firm lattice of tannin that sets this wine up for decades in the cellar.
A very good release of a McLaren Vale Icon that will sit proudly in any cellar.
