This is the first release i have looked at from the 2012 vintage in Heathcote, and given my impressions of the quality of fruit that i saw from a number of vineyards during the vintage it comes as no surprise that this 2012 from Domaine Ashmara is a very good wine.
In terms of colour, the wine has excellent clarity and a medium to dark red hue, the nose is classic Heathcote with floral plum and raspberry with a leathery, earthy undercurrent.
The wine has excellent structure, it is medium to full bodied with peppery and meaty blackberry on entry, the mid palate gives fine tannins and seamlessly integrates with the spicy dark fruits that dominate the finish, in typical Heathcote style there is a dash of liquorice to add interest.
This wine is drinking wonderfully in it's youth and will be sure to reward cellaring.
