When i think about Cult wineries in Australia there are constantly three names that come to mind. Rockford, Wendouree and Noon. It's not often that i manage to track down a Noon, but i was very impressed with the 2012 release. It's certainly a big wine, but the way it manages to handle it's alcohol and focus it's richness and depth into a layered, textural experience was something to savour.
The wine gave an inky dark red in the glass with a nose that showcases both deeply enjoyable and concentrated plum and blackberry but an aromatic and spicy lift to the fruit. A full bodied wine fruit and oak dialled up, but the quality is impeccable. There is a saturation of dark fruits with enough savoury nuance and web of tannins to ensure balance.
The finish is long and richly fruited, with the wine carrying it's 15.2% alcohol very well.
