Punt Road plan on doing things a little differently, rather than producing a reserve wine they produce Chemin. Chemin represents wines that are made in very small quantities, showcasing quality fruit and minimal yet considered winemaking. The 2012 was whole bunch fermented for close to two weeks and saw close to 30% new oak in large format puncheons.
The wine gives a smokey and stemmy impression of plum on the nose, the palate has excellent weight with spice and pepper interjecting along with stemmy influences across the palate. There is a savoury, olive aspect to finish with excellent weight in the mouth and a long balanced finish.
Expect exciting things from the Chemin range in the future.
