Tasting
This is the first Balmoral that i have tried for a number of years, it's an impressive wine that has purity of fruit and attractive use of oak. The wine itself only spends between 8-10 months in both French and American oak, of which only 20-30% is new. The wine also has a small proportion of Grenache.
A deep and youthful red in the glass, there is intense red and black berry fruits on the nose that are ably supported by integrated vanillin oak.
The palate is medium to full bodied, starting with sweeter blueberry and plum fruits, slowly moving into the blackberry spectrum, gentle spices are interwoven, the tannins ripe and supportive.
The finish has great fruit and length. Drinking well now, it will undoubtedly reward a decade or more in the cellar.
