Tasting
The Reserve Shiraz for 2012 was inoculated for ferment, prior to ageing in new and used barrels for 18 months. The fruit was sourced from the Estate's oldest plantings, a one acre block that was planted in 1972. It is an interesting contrast to make between the Estate and Reserve, with more winemaker derived influences in the Estate, yet the sheer quality of the reserve leaves it in it's wake; it's all about the grapes.

A deep glossy dark red in the glass, there is a smokey, herbal character to dense plum fruits on the nose. The wines structure is impeccable, rolling from dark fruits to oak induced spice against an underlying white pepper savouriness. The finish is long and elegant.

A superb example of Yarra Valley Shiraz.
