The name Footbolt comes from the prized horse owned by Joseph Osborn that was among those that were sold to finance the establishment of d'Arenberg in 1912. The wine is aged on lees for between 12 - 18 months in new and used American and French Oak. The Footbolt is a consistently high performer and represents excellent value for money.
A dark fruited nose with a leather and black liquorice character that unfolds with time in the glass.
This wine is all about texture, no doubt the extended time on gross lees helped to soften the wines more savoury aspects and highlight the gentle oak integration and intensity of dark berry fruits.
It's not often you find a wine for less that $20 that will get even better with medium term cellaring.
