2014 Goldman Wines Hunter Valley Shiraz

2014 has gone down as one of the best Hunter Valley vintages in a long time, so it is pretty amazing to find a 2014 release that is still available for $20. Sure it isn't a flagship, but this is a well aged medium bodied Shiraz that enjoys the savoury, brambly expression of dark berry fruits the region is known for. A medium red that is just starting to show some faint bricking on the rim of the glass, the nose focuses on plum and redcurrant with faint spice and earth. The palate is flowing with well managed acidity and fine tannins with a pull through of tart redcurrant and some slightly fleshier dark berry fruits. The finish takes on some leather tones with bright plum fruit. Still plenty of years in the tank.
