The wine is sourced from the Chinese block in the Lopresti Vineyard, the wine was fermented and left on skins for a period post fermentation prior to be racked to new French oak for 18 months.
Oak has impact with christmas cake like spice giving generosity to dense plum; there are background notes of unsweetened licorice and a final embellishment of milk chocolate.
The thread of milk chocolate works its way through to the palate and is layered on top of plum and blackberry fruit. Tannins give an initial appearance of being supple but they build with time and give a drying grip, especially when combined with a finely attuned line of acidity. Acid is an important part of the wine as it ensures decadent fruit and oak doesn't get too carried away.
The finish shows a side of the wine that is more savoury and earthen with brooding black fruits that will demand time. Impressive release.
