The name is a tribute to John's Harris' grandfather Jim who could often be heard quoting 'silence is golden'. The grapes were sourced from the western Barossa and aged in both French and American oak for 18 months.
There is a savory flare to dense plum and blackberry on the nose that's accentuated by bitter chocolate and a faint sweetness of oak.
The balance that has been struck between French and American oak is masterful, the French gives spice and structure, with the American giving tannin and velvety richness to deeply concentrated black fruits.
The length to finish is significant with blackberry compote interjected by gentle spice and a moreish line of acidity that keeps the wine fresh and focused before drying, tarry black fruits take over with unsweetened liquorice.
A wine built for the long term.
