The Malakoff vineyard has produced some exceptional wines over the years, and this provenance shines through with the Mule release from Giant Steps. There is something about the good wines produced from Western Victoria fruit that pits a floral, tar and roses like prettiness against deeply enjoyable, somewhat salty and earthen dark berry fruits that soak up quality oak. This release has that.
The nose gives plenty of floral characters and turkish delight like notes due to both it's age and the impact of some new oak in it's maturation. The palate sees darker plum and meatier notes take hold, the wine is supple yet savoury with long tannins and juicy acidity that give textural interest. Drinking well in it's youth, but plenty there for the future.
