This is an exceptional Chardonnay, I first tasted as part of a Wine Communicators of Australia event with the wine maker where it stood out amongst an impressive crowd, true to form it is just as good second time round.
The estate vineyard from which the wine was produced is planted to four clones of Chardonnay with the wine being whole bunch pressed to barrel before undergoing a controlled wild yeast ferment and ageing on lees. The wine is a light yellow in the glass and a classical representation of new world Chardonnay. Lees induced flint and considered french oak give excitement and character to the white peach and fig dominant nose. The palate has a nervy, punchy acidity that underpins expansive white peach with a chalky mouthfeel. The finish pulls everything together with racy acidity is tempered by stone fruits and a sheath of spiced french oak tying it all together.
This will age effortlessly and is a wine worth hunting down.
