2012 Ballendean Estate Malbec
Wine Rating

92
Ballandean Estate is Queensland’s oldest and largest family owned vineyard with wine being made on the estate since 1932 with the cellar door opened in 1970. The winery produces traditional Australian staples of Chardonnay, Cabernet and Shiraz, as well as alternative varieties such as Sylvaner, Fiano, Malbec and Saperavi.

A youthful red with purple hues towards the rim, the nose balances sweet chocolaty oak inputs and juicy dark cherry and plum that is backed by sage spice.

The wine has good mouth feel and structure with tannin and acid doing well to contrast and complement primary red fruits and rich integrated oak, there is a backdrop of savory spice that will serve the wine well in years to come. Very good length of spicy oak and warm plum to finish.
