Review Detail
2012 Logan Weemala Merlot
Wine Rating
90
Merlot is a much maligned variety in Australia when compared to the wines of Bordeaux and Hawkes Bay to name a few benchmark regions, this release from Logan presents Merlot from Mudgee and i must say for $19 it is a good wine and provides considerable drinking enjoyment.
I really enjoy the wines structure and savoury edge, too often Merlot is represented through a jubey interpretation of a drink now wine. The nose gives a briny olive aspect to sour cherry and blackberry fruit, a touch of tobacco provides interest to a palate with similar characters to the nose, with the wine finishing with fine tannins and a touch of leather to go with dusty blackcurrant fruits.
