2018 Windfall Wine Estate Ivor Reserve Merlot
Wine Rating

95
This is the penultimate release of this wine under the current owners of Windfall Estate and you can only hope any new owners have the same zeal and passion for Merlot, as this is consistently an exceptional example of what Australia can produce.

A medium red in the glass, the nose has layers of complexity with brooding plum and cherry accentuated by earth, leather and brown spice. A thing i have consistency enjoyed about the Ivor Reserve is how integrated the fruit is with oak and tannin, taking on more of an old world style that emphasises texture and not just primary fruit.

Sitting alongside the fruit there is a sheath of milk chocolate and a textural pull to finish that works well amongst the dark fruits. Very good length and will cellar well for a decade.
