2014 d’Arenberg The Ironstone Pressings Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre
Wine Rating

The Ironstone Pressings is produced from the best barrels of Grenache (72%), Shiraz (25%) and Mourvedre (3%) from selected vineyards. The wine is vinified separately and aged in new and used oak barriques on lees prior to final blending. The wine is bottled without any fining or filtration.

2014 releases from most wineries have come and gone, and it’s safe to say that there were some wonderful wines produced, this wine further reinforces that with time in bottle a luxury afforded by d’Arenberg on their Icon wines.

Hooked from the first smell there is sullen dark berry fruits that meets crushed rock, herb and earth that over time shows a suggestion of oak spice.

The palate presents a wine of substance and longevity, however there is a fine thread of oak induced richness that is a well placed counterpoint to it's more savoury and darker elements.

In terms of fruit it’s plum and black cherry that are the main stays, tannins are firm and fine which works well with the rounded oak influence. There is a lingering mineral aspect to the wine with fresh earth and black cherry the final note.

This will be even better in a few years from now and have a long cellar life ahead of it.
