Review Detail
2014 Humis Vineyard Carmenere
(Updated: June 23, 2016)
Wine Rating
92
Humis vineyard is a small producer from Heathcote that was established by Michelle and Hugh Jones in 2010, with the winery having a focus on less common varieties in the region such as Carmenere.
There are very few examples of Carmenere in Australia, with Heathcote having two vineyards planted to the variety . This is the first time I've tried it and I like what I see.
A glossy red hue with transparency towards the rim with cured meat, earth and leather showing alongside savoury and herbaceous blackberry fruit.
A great line of acidity gives the palate life and drive, dark fruits get a dusting of spice and forest floor, tannins are fine but firm and accentuate dull blackberry and stem to finish.
I look forward to looking at more examples of the variety out of Australia in years to come.
