Review Detail
2015 Purple Hands Montelpulciano
Wine Rating
94
Montepulciano is an Italian varietal that is most commonly found in the Abruzzo region, Purple Hands have a focus on alternative varieties (when compared to traditional Australian plantings), with Montepulciano, Anglicano and Mataro all being produced.
A nose that gives an earthen expression of dark cherry and savoury raspberry fruit. The palate has a core of drying, leathery tannin which provides a great counterpoint to the generous up front red berry fruit that gains a more serious and savoury nature on the mid palate with the injection of spice and more meaty notes as it moves towards the long finish.
A wine worth seeking out.
