Aglianico has it’s heritage in Greece but more recently has been planted in the Southern Italian regions of Basilicata and Campania. This is an intriguing wine, i don’t pretend to be an expert on the variety but was happy to be educated.

Intense white pepper and flashes of aniseed sit alongside earthen dark cherry on the nose. There is a crunchy, gravelly baseline of tannin and acidity that benefits from just enough oak richness to provide great drinking interest now but not detract from the cellaring potential of the wine. The finish gives drying plum with a return of white pepper, some spice and bitter dark chocolate.

I’d love to see what this becomes.
