2015 Humis Vineyard Carmenere
Wine Rating

94
This is an impressive release that’s worth tracking down, Carmenere is a scarcely planted variety in Australia, but it has found a home in Heathcote. At $25 a bottle this is an absolute steal.

Carmenere is said to be the bastard son of Cabernet Franc and Gros Cabernet, with some of the peppery, almost spicy notes from Cabernet Franc certainly having an impact on the wine. The nose provides an attractive combination of violets, dark cherry and juicy plum. The medium bodied palate has great suppleness and the wine finishes with length of plum that’s accentuated by pepper and tomato leaf.

A wine to be enjoyed over the short to medium term whilst primary fruits are the star.
