Review Detail

2014 Mitchell Wines Grenache Mataro Shiraz
Wine Rating

91
Sourced from dry grown old Vineyards in the Clare Valley this wine was aged in large format older barrels to preserve the primary, savoury fruit that the Clare has to offer.

The nose takes some time to unravel, but when it does it gives a dark rendition of cherry, violets and a backdrop of mint. The wine is medium to full bodied with earth, cocoa and a fine thread of tannin pulling together supple plum and blackberry fruit. The finish is starting to develop some leather notes from time in bottle and it will continue to evolve over the medium term.
