2012 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

The range at Leeuwin Estate is amongst the best in Margaret River, with the Art Series representing the pinnacle of their wines. I have enjoyed many Art Series wines but hadn't yet come across the Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, it not only lived up to it's label but is the most complex and thrilling examples of the blend I have tried.

There is a lot to love about this wine, from a winemaking perspective it has had the works, time on lees, time in barrel and a proportion of French oak. Resulting in a wine that has the complexity of a Chardonnay but the lightness and prettiness of fruit you expect from a Semillon / Sauvignon Blanc.

The nose is creamy and rich with lime, guava and lanolin that is supported by an aromatic oak induced lift. The wine has texture and finesse with a subtle interplay between citrus fruits and nutty / flinty notes. There is a nervy acidity that holds everything together and informs the wine as a medium term cellaring proposition.

A worthy addition to the Art Series range, and worth the $37 retail price.
