2016 Churchview Estate St Johns Wild Fermented Chenin Blanc
Wine Rating

91
Chenin Blanc, an often misrepresented wine in Australia when compared to those that come from it’s spiritual homeland in the Loire Valley. This wine has plenty of character and interest, it was wild yeast fermented and spent time in new and seasoned oak with some portions of the wine having extended skin contact. The resultant wine is a light yellow in the glass with a nose that showcases pear, fresh sugarcane and touches of wood spice.

The palate is texturally appealing with initially richer pear and vanillin spice tamed by citrus acidity and flashes of oyster shell. The finish is long and bristles with taut acidity and an enjoyable savoury edge to citrus fruit.
