Review Detail
2016 Granite Hills Grüner Veltliner
Wine Rating
95
This is the first release of Gruner Veltliner from Granite Hills, the iconic Macedon Ranges producer that has been crafting some of Victoria’s finest examples of Riesling for a number of years. To my knowledge this is the first release of Gruner Veltliner from the region and it is a stellar one at that.
The nose gives candied lime and an understated jasmine inspired spice. The wine strikes a fine balance between generosity of fruit and a chalky mineral texture. Mouth filling pear, stone fruits and fig give way to grapefruit that provides contrast before an enjoyable floral note works alongside driving acidity to finish.
There were only 30 dozen bottles of this wine produced, all i can say is get in quick and i hope this is the first of many releases that will help put this variety on the map in the Macedon Ranges.
