Review Detail
2018 Catlin Skins Gruner Veltliner (Experiment #1)
Wine Rating
92
The wine was fermented on skins and aged in oak which is not the usual winemaking approach for Gruner. It has resulted in a wine that is light on it’s feet in terms of textural acidity, but has a layers of depth afforded by quality fruit and some enterprising wine making technique.
There is pineapple, a touch of funk with richer pear and baked apple notes on the nose, the palate shows a continuation of pear fruits but this time having some citrus tones, the time in oak has given a touch of creaminess which is well contrasted by chalky acidity. The finish has grip and leaves a baked pineapple note that lingers.
