Review Detail
2018 Airlie Bank Gris Fermented on Skins
Wine Rating
94
Gris fermented on skins; it sounds like a dish from Heston Blumenthal but this is a stylish, crunchy, yet generous spring release from Punt Road. If I close my eyes I think of cab franc, which is a good thing !
Two parcels of fruit were fermented separately with 50% whole bunch and the other 50% fermented as whole berries. The wine was pressed to old French oak hogsheads for 3 months prior to racking and bottling without fining or stabilisation.
There is a sweetness from time on skins and whole bunch that gives a savoury edge to pear tinged with red apple and wild strawberry. Moreish is an understatement on a warm day, good luck finding something better for $20.
Back up the truck for summer.
