2017 Punt Road Emperor’s Prize Pinot Noir

It’s pretty hard to find a Pinot Noir for sup $20 and this is a solid effort but doesn’t reach any great heights. It is certainly varietal in terms of red cherry, bramble and a touch of spice, but the wine has hard edges and a touch of bitterness that distracts. If anything it will look better in a few more years to come. I am probably being a little harsh given this is up there with any $20 Pinot, but given the quality of wine Punt Road is punching out under the guidance of Tim Shand there needs to be an outlier.
