Review Detail
2015 Alkimi 'Le Mistral' Rose
Wine Rating
87
If your looking for an interesting rose that is anything but standard this is your wine. A little bit of a frankenstein with Stuart Dudine taking a leaf out of Chinese cookbook (sweet and sour) in crafting a wine with searing acidity (3.0 Ph) and perceivable sweetness (10g RS).
The wine is a bright strawberry red, the blend is made up of Grenache, Syrah and Roussane with a nose that shows strawberry and plum aromas.
The palate is initially dry on entry with the sweetness coming across the mid palate, drying almost textural tannins work in well with the acid giving a compelling if not confusing mouth feel. In terms of fruit red cherry and rhubarb are joined by cooking spice to finish.
This was drank alongside Japanese and worked well, and i have no doubt this would be great with Thai or Indian food.
