2010 Castagna La Chiave
Wine Rating
93
I've been looking forward to getting my hands on some of the releases from Castagna, it's a winery from Beechworth that is known for it's quality and ability to produce some excellent Sangiovese.
The La Chiave is a compelling wine, it has presence and concentration but maintains an underlying elegance with a crunchy combination of tannin and fruit that balances out the more overt oak and concentrated fruit aspects.
A dark red in the glass, vanillin oak is evident on the nose with green tomato, drying dark cherry and touches of camphor. Tannin an acid is profound with with crunchy drying tannin and dark cherry cola to finish.
