Sauvignon Blanc December 17, 2013
2013 Bass River Winery Sauvignon Blanc
Wine Rating

93

This is an excellent release that has been made with texture and mouthfeel in mind, the wine had equal portion in barrel and tank with extended skin contact and time on lees clearly evident in the wine, with a savoury complexity that gives vibrancy to what is a variety that can be somewhat one dimensional.

A very light yellow with a fleck of green in the glass, the nose has youthful green apple, lime and citrus blossom with a background wood spice.

The palate has piercing acidity that is inspired by zesty citrus fruits, with a textural grapefruit grip and slight flinty oak lift that provides a fullness to contrast to the racy acidity. The length is excellent and the extended skin contact and time on lees adds complexity.

I continue to be impressed by the quality of the whites produced by this Gippsland producer.
