Sauvignon Blanc August 18, 2014
2012 Squitchy Lane Fume Blanc
Wine Rating

91
Fume in French has a translation of ‘smoky’ which denotes the morning fog that can be seen in the Loire Valley considered the home of Sauvignon Blanc. In terms of style a typical fume blanc sees time on lees and time in barrel, it creates a structured and textural expression of the wine.

The 2012 release is a light yellow in colour. the nose is topical with some stewed apricot and leesy complexity to go with elements of mandarine and oyster shell.

The palate starts with rich tropical fruits but is channelled by mineral acidity and grapefruit astringency to finish. The fume style gives such texture and longevity to the Sauvignon Blanc variety that is showcased by this wine.
