Review Detail
2017 Sidewood Mappinga Fume Blanc
Wine Rating
94
A barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc that was aged in 30% new and 70% older French Oak, with the wine anything but a straight up and down Sauvignon Blanc.
Time in barrel gives smokey and herbaceous tones to citrus and brown pear on the nose; the palate has a taut baseline of acidity but the generosity of tight grained french oak runs down the spine of the wine, giving an embellishment of richness to meyer lemon and nashi pear. The acidity is mineral and moreish to finish and ties together the gentle herbaceous inputs with impressive length.
