Review Detail
2018 Sidewood Estate Mappinga Fume Blanc
Wine Rating
95
The grapes were sourced from the Mappinga Road Vineyard and only free run juice used. The wine was fermented and aged in French oak barrels for eight months with 30% new and 70% older oak.
The nose has impressive aromatics that showcase the sheer quality of the fruit as well as adventurous but considered winemaking. The new oak has given a flint and vanillin aspect but it has been met in equal measure by lime, alpine herbs and understated passionfruit. Lime provides a racy backbone to the wine with a subtle build of texture from time on lees and time in oak. Interestingly the decision to pick at 11.5% will underwrite the wines development over many years. An excellent wine.
