Review Detail
2018 Giesen The August Sauvignon Blanc
Wine Rating
93
This is a beautifully balanced fume blanc; Sauvignon Blanc shines through but the impact of barrel ferment and some vanillin oak gives complexity and interest without taking away from the fruit.
The aromatics are steeped in tropical fruits with a touch of sulphide funk and understated herbaceous edge. The palate is light on its feet with passionfruit and peach softened by faint vanillin tones and a creamy mouthfeel that’s pulled back into line by considered acidity to finish. Drinking well now and over the next few years.
