Semillon September 16, 2013
2010 The Islander Estate 'Wally White'
Wine Rating

93
The Wally White's name pays homage to the Australianism of calling someone a 'wally' when they act a fool, interestingly it is not labelled as a Semillon, even through the wine is 100% Semillon from Estate fruit.

The wine is a lightly golden in yellow, the nose gives buttered toast, lime skin, a touch of vanillin oak with great complexity no doubt due in part to the barrel ferment.

The palate is fresh and steeped in citrus from which richer lanolin, nectarine and spiced peach characters emerge. There is a softness from french oak that gives a roundness and fullness to the palate.

The finish shows fresh acidity and a return to citrus fruits, the length is considerable with this wine sure to evolve it's expression with time in the cellar.
