1996 Rosemount Estate Mountain Blue Shiraz Cabernet
Wine Rating

94
This wine was produced in an era where some of Rosemount’s premium wines came from the Mudgee region in NSW. Given this wines quality and propensity for age it’s a pity we don’t see current vintage versions of the classic Australian Shiraz Cabernet Blend.

The wine was produced from a low yielding vineyard and saw 100% new oak with a 50/50 blend between American and French. The resultant wine after 18 years is a testament to a great vineyard site and forward thinking winemaking.

The nose is delicate, with smokey oak and background blackberry and plum, the palate is decidedly medium bodied with a stalky and savoury core that benefits from a touch of peppermint to go along with dusty black fruits. An excellent mouthfeel with fading dark fruits and mint on the long and layered finish. A very enjoyable bottle.
