2003 Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz

The Langi Shiraz is fast becoming one of Victoria’s most iconic wines, so having the chance to try this wine after a decade was a great opportunity to see where it's going, and understand the stylistic changes that have occurred when compared to current vintages.

The immediate thing that strikes me on the nose of the 2003 is the lashings of quality vanillin oak, with more than compensating plum and blackberry fruits showing themselves in equal measure.

The palate is spicy and dense with some savoury secondary leather and olive characters just starting to give contrast on the mid to back palate. The tannins are firm and drying with dark berry fruits and cocoa. Spicy oak driven length and a touch of alcohol to finish, with the wine to continue to evolve over the next 5 years.

When compared to the 2012 Langi Shiraz there is a 2% difference in terms of alcohol, which is evident in this wine.
