2016 Huntington Estate Basket Dried Shiraz

The wine is made in the Amarone style with the grapes dried to reduce the amount of water in the berries and accentuate the concentration of the grapes. This is a winemaking technique that takes both time and introduces risk into the winemaking process, so it’s pretty exciting when it comes off.

Inky dark red with a cacophony of aromatics with milk chocolate, vanilla bean, luxurious plum and richness of tar and roses. Even though the wine comes in at 15.5 % the balance is impeccable. Tannins are drying with a bitter dark chocolate edge and lines of acidity that not only gives structure but will underwrite future development. Oak provides a creaminess to the wine and layers of spice to unbridled dark berry fruits that have immense concentration to finish.
