2017 Gundog Estate Hilltops Shiraz No.1

This is my more preferred of the Hilltops Shiraz produced by Gundog Estate, with the No.1 being a more supple and rounded expression of cool climate Shiraz.

The nose has ripe black fruits with a touch of bracken and top notes of integrated vanillin oak; the palate has a baseline of blackberry and plum fruit with a liquorice and peppercorn twist before oak gives some spice and richness of texture. The finish shows bay leaf and sage alongside understated charcuterie notes that are sure to come into their own in years to come.
